Political Cartoons
Political cartoons are satirical commentaries on current political situations. They often appear in the editorial section of newspapers and are also referred to as editorial cartoons. Historians find them helpful resources because they not only give insight into historical events, but they provide a perspective on public opinion.
Dr. Seuss
Dr. Seuss was a cartoonist most well known for childrens books. However, from 1941-1943 he was the chief editorial cartoonist for the New York newspaper PM. This exercise focuses on a political cartoon Dr. Seuss published on June 30, 1942 made available at Dr. Seuss Went to War: A Catalog of Political Cartoons by Dr. Suess from the Mandeville Special Collections Library at the University of California, San Diego.
